I am not perfect.

I am far from perfect.

I will openly admit that there are a number of blogs that I enjoy reading where I often find myself feeling a little envious of the lives the bloggers behind these blogs live. Envious of the places they have traveled, the fabulous clothes they wear, and the perfect families they have.

It's so easy to find yourself feeling envious and to start comparing yourself, your life and your blog to theirs. It's also very easy to get down on ourselves when our self esteem and confidence runs low.

Yes, I know that comparing is never fair, and that the comparison trap can be very dangerous. With that said, I find it very interesting how blogs have the ability to portray this 'perfect life.'

I am somewhat careful as to what parts of my life I choose to share and not share on my blog. For me, it's not that I have anything to hide; but as a blogger, sharing bits and pieces of my life on the internet, there are some things that you don't always want to put out there. I guess you could also say it's also a safety thing - once its out there, anyone can see it.

I may not be perfect, I do not live a perfect life, and I have faults and weaknesses, but that's okay. Life is good and I am okay being imperfect.

  1. Lovely post. I was attracted to it b/c I'm more often than not jealous of the bloggers I follow - how skinny and beautiful they are, their clothes... all the superficial things. Well, I'm also jealous of the amount of times they post per week & the fact they can come up w/ tons of post ideas...

    1. You took the words right out of my mouth! Rather than being jealous, I am trying to use it as a goal, I guess you could say. Something to work towards (posting more, great post ideas, etc)!!

  2. You're so right. I am far from perfect but have learned a lot from my mistakes. And am still learning.

But totally jealous of the bloggers with amazing houses and clothes too!

    1. Some of the things I am jealous/envious of, I am trying to use it to motivate myself to work harder to achieve those things I want!

  3. Hi Chelsea.

I do read blogs that are beautiful in design, the pretty images they post, the clothes they wear and places they've been, too. My obsession now is interior design blogs. Bloggers create post based on their niche, their passion. But, there are times when I think how all these "perfectness" is too much to read. I think sometimes it becomes unrelatable. I would take a break reading their blogs.

Also, blogs are just snippets of our lives. We don't blog every hour/minute and sometimes it's easier to blog about the good things that happen. I look to these beautiful blogs for inspiration, make a post that is more relatable to me and share it on my blog. I think your doing great here. Keep it up!

  4. That is awesome! I can also be quick to compare myself to others but you are right we need to be content where our lives are! Thanks for the reminder!

  5. I compare myself to others far too often! And since I started blogging, I compare myself to other bloggers as well. Thank you for the PERFECT reminder that we are who we were meant to be.

  6. I think it's definitely too easy to compare yourself with others and get a bit down. But when I find myself doing that, I try to take a moment to remember all the things I do that others like or comment on, and I think about how much time they would have spent cleaning to get their houses looking so amazing for a photo shoot..... We only get to see what people want to show us, think about what you'd most likely see if you were to ever call in to their place un-anounced. We only get to see a perception of their reality, so I much more enjoy real life blogs, where you get to see a bit of the everyday, not a pretend everyday. If that makes sense? Sarah :)
